Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 22, 2026

1. Introduction

BoltBrief ("we", "our", or "us") operates the BoltBrief Chrome extension and the website at boltbrief.com (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.

By using the Service you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Account & billing data. When you subscribe to a paid plan we collect your email address and payment details. All payment processing is handled by Stripe; we never store your full credit card number.
  • Support requests. If you contact us we may collect your name, email, and the content of your message.

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Usage data. We collect anonymous, aggregated usage metrics such as the number of summaries generated, feature usage frequency, and error reports. These metrics help us improve the Service and do not identify individual users.
  • Video content processed. When you request a summary, the extension sends the video's transcript (or video frames for caption-free analysis on the Pro plan) to our servers for AI processing. We process this data on-demand and do not store your viewing history.
  • Extension local storage. The extension stores preferences, cached summaries, and session tokens locally on your device using the Chrome Storage API.

2.3 Information we do not collect

  • We do not collect your YouTube browsing history or watch history.
  • We do not track which videos you visit unless you actively request a summary.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with advertisers.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions.
  • Send transactional emails (e.g., payment receipts, plan changes).
  • Diagnose technical issues and prevent abuse.
  • Generate aggregated, non-identifying analytics to guide product decisions.

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles or serve targeted ads.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on the following third-party providers:

  • Stripe — Payment processing. Stripe's use of your data is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
  • YouTube API Services — The extension accesses YouTube content through the YouTube API. By using the Service you are also bound by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare — Infrastructure hosting and content delivery. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
  • AI model providers — If you use the Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) feature, your API key and processed content are sent directly to your chosen provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google). Each provider's privacy policy applies to that usage.

5. Data Storage & Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Cached summaries are stored locally on your device; server-side processing data is ephemeral and not persisted after the response is delivered.

While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100 % secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Cookies & Local Storage

The BoltBrief website may use essential cookies for functionality (e.g., language preference). We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

The Chrome extension uses the Chrome Storage API (local and sync) to persist your preferences and cached data. This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless required for the Service to function.

7. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, we retain billing records as required by law (typically up to 7 years for tax purposes).
  • Usage metrics are stored in aggregated, non-identifying form and may be retained indefinitely.
  • Processed video content is not stored after the AI response is delivered.
  • Local extension data can be cleared at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension data in Chrome settings.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
  • Object to processing in certain circumstances.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.

10. International Data Transfers

Our infrastructure is distributed globally via Cloudflare. If you access the Service from outside the region where our servers are located, your data may be transferred internationally. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in compliance with applicable data protection laws.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes we will make reasonable efforts to notify you (e.g., via the extension or email). Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
